Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) is showing a powerful performance in the Bihar Assembly Election 2025, emerging as the single-largest party in the early counting trends. As of 10:55 AM, JDU is leading in 84 out of the 101 seats it contested. Its ally, the BJP, is also performing strongly with leads in 80 seats, pushing the NDA’s total tally beyond 185 seats.
If this trend continues, the NDA is set to comfortably form the next government in Bihar. However, several rounds of counting are still left, and numbers may fluctuate.

Opposition Struggles: RJD and Congress Trail Behind
On the Opposition side, RJD is ahead in 37 seats, while Congress is leading in only 7 seats.
Prashant Kishor’s much-discussed Jan Suraaj Party, expected by many to be a surprising factor in this election, is leading in just one seat.
The strong performance of JDU once again highlights Nitish Kumar’s lasting influence in Bihar politics. Even after 20 years in power, his governance record and public image continue to draw voter support.
JDU Regains Position in NDA Coalition
This impressive JDU comeback is significant, especially because the party was earlier perceived as the weaker partner within the NDA.
If JDU ends as the single-largest party, it will mirror the results of the 2005 and 2010 Bihar elections, when JDU held the dominant position in the alliance.
Mahagathbandhan Campaign Fails to Impress Voters
Counting trends show that the Mahagathbandhan’s campaign, which questioned Nitish Kumar’s health and promoted Tejashwi Yadav as a younger alternative for Chief Minister, did not resonate with voters.
If Nitish Kumar takes oath again, it will be his 10th time as Chief Minister. Despite political shifts and criticisms over the years, these results prove that his governance image still holds strong among the public.
LJP (Ram Vilas) Also Shines in NDA Bloc
Another major winner in the NDA is Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). After tough negotiations on seat-sharing, Paswan’s party is now performing exceptionally well.
Out of the 28 seats LJP (RV) contested, it is leading in 23 seats. If this trend continues, it will add to Chirag Paswan’s growing political momentum, especially after his clean sweep (5/5) in last year’s Lok Sabha elections.
