Veteran actor Paresh Rawal returns to the big screen with his latest film, The Taj Story, which released in cinemas on October 31, 2025. Directed by Tushar Amrish Goel, the film explores the intriguing mystery of the 22 sealed rooms inside the Taj Mahal, questioning long-held beliefs about India’s iconic monument. The Taj Story Box Office Collection – Day 1
According to early box office estimates by Sacnilk, The Taj Story earned approximately ₹1.04 crore (India net) on its opening day. While the numbers mark a moderate start, the film’s unique concept and controversial theme have sparked mixed reactions from audiences across India.
Pre-Release Controversy and Legal Challenges
Before its theatrical release, The Taj Story became the center of a heated controversy. Two Public Interest Litigations (PILs) were filed seeking a ban on the film and a review of its censor certification, alleging that the film distorts historical facts.
Despite these challenges, the film’s makers stood their ground. Both Paresh Rawal and Zakir Hussain defended the movie, emphasizing that it was created with thorough research and no intention to provoke religious sentiments.
Rawal stated,
“Tushar (the director) came with amazing research. There’s nothing controversial or fabricated in it. His sources were clearly mentioned, and I even verified them with friends who confirmed the facts.”
He further clarified that the film maintains complete neutrality, steering clear of communal tones:
“From the very beginning, we ensured there’s no Hindu-Muslim jingoism in this story. In fact, there’s a dialogue in the film where a character says, ‘Brother, it’s you journalists who make everything about Hindu and Muslim.’”
A Film That Sparks Curiosity
The Taj Story stands out for its bold narrative, blending historical curiosity with cinematic drama. While it faces its share of controversies, the film’s premise has intrigued viewers eager to explore what lies beyond the legend of the Taj Mahal.
